Prologue

[Author’s ramblings: This is a Gundam Wing semi-romantic comedy/adventure. The usual non-yaoi pairings are being cast off except for two. Heck no! Don’t get me wrong! I’m not mismatching them. That leads to bigger flames than if I wrote dark fics about their relationships.) The two pairs I am keeping? Well, you’ll see. Well, I think I’ve revealed all I need to. If you have had any problems with the past paragraph, don’t read the fic! It’s that simple!

Additional note: this may also fall under Alternate Universe Category. I’m screwing around the episode plot and the relevancy of Endless Waltz. That’s all.

Standard Disclaimer: I don’t own Gundam Wing (darn it) and I’m not making money. Don’t sue!

Prologue:

"Hmm… Interesting," Gerald said as he stood beside the helmsman. He folded his arms over his chest and walked along the main bridge until he stood before the main viewing screen. A blue and green planet with white cloud swirls on it was displayed on the screen. A grin tugged at the young man’s features. His dark brown eyes twinkled. He wore a red and black dress shirt with a black band at the waist, leaving his shirt-tails to trail to mid-thigh. His pants were gray and intricately sewn pockets ran down the sides until they reached his knee.

"What’s so interesting?" asked another man from where he lounged on an absent officer’s chair. He wore a red jacket over a starched white shirt and gold buttons that resembled spades. His black pants were tough and black boots went halfway up his calves, as his friend’s was.

"Just look, Fitz. That planet must be the source of all these… ‘colonies’ we’ve seen on our expedition. What is that planet called?"

"We’ve heard over their transmissions that it is called… Earth, sir," an officer answered.

"Hey! Gerald, you don’t think that we, of the House of Spades, are the only ones of Vasquere to set eyes upon this civilization, do you?" Fitz quickly stood up and was at his friend’s side in a second. "I think we should tell His Majesty at once! Think of the reward your father is to give us! Right… Jack of Spades?"

Gerald turned his head toward Fitz at the sound of his royal title. "Yes. Right away. Where’s my sister? I want her to see this, Fitz. Or now that we are back to work, I shall be addressing my inferiors as I should, Ten?"

Fitz laughed, but bowed. "Yes, Sir! I’ll get the Ace of Spades right now. She’s most likely in the soldier’s training simulation room."

Gerald watched his friend leave and clapped his hands. The nearest officer stood up and saluted with his right fist to his heart. "Send a message to my father, the King of Spades. Tell him that I believe I have found the Lost Links of Life to Vasquere. Send this message right away and make it secret! If the House of Hearts were to know… or even the House of Clubs, think of what they would do with Earth."

"Yes sir!" The officer bowed. As he strode toward the exit of the main bridge, a shout came from down the corridor. Fitz shouted in frustration while a young woman dressed as Gerald was came running onto the main bridge.

"Where is it? Let me see, Gerald!" She ran over and clasped her brother’s hand excitedly.

"What do you think, Ellis? Do you think it could be it?"

"It’s… beautiful," she replied.

Fitz stalked over, his face red. "If I may comment, I don’t think that’s any way for the Ace of Spades to behave."

Ellis let go of Gerald and turned to face him. She folded her arms defiantly and glared at him. "For your information, the way you think I should behave, Ten, is the way you think daughters of a King of one of the four houses should act. But, Aces of any house may act as they wish, for they are trained to be the deadliest of their house. Stop confusing me with my sisters!"

He opened his mouth as if he was going to say something, but he shut up and glowered silently.

"I knew I was going to regret convincing Father to let you train to be Ace," Gerald said.

Ellis smiled. Then her smile disappeared. "Gerald."

"What?"

"Look at the edge of the screen. Near that colony! It’s a ship! Focus visual, now!" she shouted to the technicians. The screen suddenly zoomed in. A small black ship was faintly glowing red as it approached the colony.

"Under stealth," Ellis whispered. "It’s a ship of our fiercest rivals. The Outcasts. The Jokers!"

Gerald held his breath for a moment. "They know what this discovery means to us and they’re going to reek havoc on Earth so that when our foreign diplomats arrive, some of the Earth people will believe we brought it upon them. Damn!"

Ellis suddenly smiled. "Ger- I mean, Jack. Requesting permission to travel to Earth and prevent the Jokers."

Fitz’s jaw practically hit the floor. "WHAT? You can’t be serious! She can’t be serious! Sir! Jack! I believe, Sir, it would be best to await the counsel of His Majesty and perhaps the counsel of the House of Diamonds!"

Gerald stared at the ship on the screen. "Permission granted to Ace of Spades."

"YES!" Ellis grinned.

"But!" Gerald stopped her. "To remind you to keep logic and reason, Ten will accompany you. I’ll send word to Five and Six- they should be in this sector somewhere- to collect and organize forces if the Jokers show major hostility. Above all, I wish that your mission be discreet as possible. The people of Earth must not know we are here yet. Don’t let anything stand in your way."

Ellis rolled her eyes at the thought of Fitz accompanying her. Fitz didn’t seem to be taking it well either, because he was grinding his teeth.

"Dismissed," the Jack of Spades smiled. "And good luck… Ace."

[Author’s Ramblings: ACK! DID I WRITE THAT? Oh. Well, what did you think? Please return to see the following chapters! I know that this prologue wasn’t all that engaging as it should be, but you haven’t even introduced the G Pilots into this yet! Heheh. As for the House of Spades and the whole deck of cards deal…I thought it had potential for humor! Well… it WILL!]
